• Emmylou Harris was born in Birmingham, Alabama. She became a Grand Ole Opry member in 1992.
• Leon Russell was born in Lawton, Oklahoma.

April 3, 1999

• Grand Ole Opry star Don Gibson was born in Shelby, North Carolina. Eddy Arnold's classic, "Anytime," hit number one on the jukebox charts this day in 1948.
• Johnny Horton was born in Tyler, Texas
• Restless Heart earned a gold album for "Big Dreams in a Small Town" in 1990.
• The first Louisiana Hayride broadcast from radio KWKH in Shreveport, Louisiana, 1948.

April 4, 1999

• Steve Gatlin of Opry group the Gatlins was born in Olney, Texas.
• Bobby Goldsboro's "Honey" album was certified gold in 1968.
• Red Sovine died in an auto accident in Nashville in 1980.
• Sylvia's "Drifter" became her first number one hit in 1981.
• Alabama's "Southern Star" single was certified gold in 1989.
